11th Armored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia

February 22, 2007

This is the position of the 11thArmored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia regarding the Gathering of Eagles mission to protect our War Memorials on March 17, 2007 at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. This will include the Three Fighting Men statue and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial.

Fellow Veterans and Supporters,

It has come to our attention that the sacred ground where the names of 729 of our fallen comrades are honored will become the backdrop for an antiwar rally on March 17th of this year. While most demonstrations appear to begin peacefully, it might be assumed that there may be a few fools who might seize the opportunity to do unthinkable deeds, then escape into a crowd. The history of these protests has included defacing public property and burning the flag we gallantly fought under.

Several veterans’ organizations are supporting a movement which has come to be known as the Gathering of Eagles.  It is their goal to protect the memorials from abuse and damage in a peaceful counter-protest that would shield the memorials from acts of vandalism during the rally. It will also act to show support for our troops while in harms way.

While the 11th ACVVC is not officially participating in the Gathering of Eagles as an organization, we ask you to consider if you should participate or not based on your individual beliefs.

Visit the 11th ACVVC web site on the message board or members forum for postings from members who wish to meet and “Go Down Together”.  Wear your Blackhorse colors proudly always and never forget your brothers.  “ALLONS”
