11thACVVC REUNION
Louisville, Ky
11thACVVC Reunions XXII, XXIII, XXIV
By Steve Page, Reunion Chairman
Our next reunion (XXII) in Louisville, September 6-8,
2007 will have a very special event at Fort Knox. We have been working
to refurbish, repair, and correct the 11th
Armored Cavalry Regiment Memorial Monument that is the centerpiece of
the Armor and Cavalry Memorial Gardens near the Patton Museum. The
rededication during the Memorial Service on Saturday, September 8 will
be one of the highlights of the weekend. We hope to have erected
memorial obelisks to the 11th Cavalry’s other campaigns during the
Philippine Insurrection, the Mexican Revolution, WW II, Desert Storm,
and Iraqi Freedom and to dedicate those additions as well.
We are working on having the Chuck Wagon Gang of
Odessa, Texas to put on their world famous barbeque for lunch near the
museum and memorial gardens after the ceremonies at Fort Knox.
The Reunion registration fee has been set at $78.00
per person. The fee is slightly higher than the past couple of years due
to transportation requirements to travel to and from Fort Knox on
Saturday and it also covers the cost of lunch at Fort Knox following the
memorial ceremony and rededication of our monument.
A detailed schedule is being developed, but for
initial planning purposes, you can expect the usual Golf Tournament on
Thursday morning, with the Registration Desk open Wednesday, Thursday,
& Friday (short time on Saturday, if necessary). The “Bunker”
will be available on Thursday and Friday at appropriate times. With the
Belle of Louisville cruises scheduled for Friday evening, we will NOT
serve a buffet dinner in the “Bunker” but will have snacks
available along with refreshments. Since we will be spending a good
portion of the day at Fort Knox on Saturday, we will have to schedule
the Annual General Membership Business Meeting for sometime on Friday.
Saturday evening we will have the Annual Banquet followed by dancing ‘til
midnight. The Quartermaster Store will be open each day for your
convenience. The formal Reunion Schedule will conclude, as always, with
a nondenominational Worship Service on Sunday prior to departure.
After much negotiation with The Hyatt O'Hare Hotel in
Rosemont, IL, we have agreed on a contract for the 11thACVVC Reunion
XXIII in 2008. Dates are August 21-24, 2008. More information on this
reunion will be posted on the 11thACVVC Website when appropriate and in
future editions of Thunder Run. Being that this is the Greater
Chicago Metropolitan area, expect the prices to be higher than in the
recent past. Chicago is a high cost area, but the membership voted for
that venue at the Meeting in Kansas City, MO, last year.
Proposals for 2009 (11thACVVC Reunion XXIV) will be
presented during the Membership meeting in Louisville and voted on. The
2009 reunion will be held in Region 4, which includes the States
of North and South Dakota, Utah, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho,
Arizona, Oregon, California, Nevada, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska. Any
member wanting to sponsor a reunion and present a city is encouraged to
do so. The requirements are: A hotel with at least 400 rooms and a
Banquet facility for at least 1200 located in the Hotel. Any one
desiring more information should contact the Reunion Chairman.
