Comments: In the Viet Nam era, the vets were treated very badly by the main stream Americans. When returning home they were spit on and considered low life. This has angered me for years! Many of them were drafted and had no choice, except to leave the country. My brother Ron Shepherd was killed in Viet Nam, July 5, 1967. His family still misses him, his parents never got over his death and his fiancÚ entered a marriage after his death that failed. She never remarried, but keeps my brothers memory alive in her heart. We all must be grateful to all the veterans who sacrificed so much so we can live in freedom. Too many young Americans take this for granted.
Comments: Capt. James Calvin Stephens was KIA on 4/27/1967. He was proud to serve in the 11th Cav and wanted to serve his country so much that he underwent knee surgery to become fit enough to accept a commission. We had been married a year and eight months when he was killed. Jim is buried in Bellwood, PA, his hometown.
