Dear Friend of the Blackhorse, 19 September 2000

A short four months from now, in February 2001, we will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the activation of the 11th Cavalry Regiment, one hundred years of renowned and distinguished service to the American people. Plans are well underway for celebrations at Fort Myer, Virginia, and Las Vegas, Nevada, generously sponsored by our two veterans organizations. These will be superb and memorable events, no doubt.

As a means to document and preserve the history and heritage of the Blackhorse Regiment, we also intend to create a television documentary. As you would expect, this documentary will be an impressive, professional documentary which will air on television and cable during the 100th anniversary year of the founding of the Regiment.

The documentary will cover the Regiment from its activation in 1901 through service in the Philippines and Cuba, the Mexican Expedition and World War II. Special attention will be made to tell the story of the Regiment’s service during its years in Vietnam, where it won much of its fame and legendary status. It will also document the Regiment’s important mission along the frontiers of freedom and then will briefly touch on its present mission as premier trainer of the US Army at the National Training Center.

Upon its debut in early 2001, the documentary will be reproduced and made available for purchase by individuals in both VHS and DVD format. We can’t think of a better way to capture the extraordinary history of our Regiment, and share it with our veterans and active troopers, as well as with the American people.

Members of the Blackhorse Regiment, whether you are a part of the 11th Armored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia or the Blackhorse Association, or an active trooper, this is a call to arms! The legendary history of the Blackhorse Regiment and the story of the troopers who made it needs to be preserved so that future generations of Americans will not forget your sacrifices!

In order to make this a reality, we need your financial support. Production costs are expected to be nearly $250,000. Of that, $25,000 has been raised so far. Best wishes!
